How Long Does An IPL Treatment Session Take?

Treatments times vary from 15-30 minutes depending upon the size of area being treated.

How Many IPL Treatments Will I Need?

Generally 3-6 treatments are necessary for optimal results.

What Will I See After IPL Treatment?

The skin may be slightly red immediately after treatment but this usually subsides within a few hours. Pigment lesions will often appear darker for a few days before they peel away.

Adverse reactions are rare but may include a small blister or temporary lightening or darkening of the skin.

How Does IPL Treatment Feel?

Treatment sensation varies but is often described as a “flick of an elastic band”.

Cold gel is applied to the skin prior to treatment to make the process more comfortable.

How Is IPL Treatment Carried Out?

For Intense Pulsed Light treatment a thin layer of chilled gel is applied to the skin to aid light absorption by the vessel. The light is then pulsed over the entire area to be treated.

The chilled gel is removed and the area cooled. During the treatment, protective eye-wear will be worn.

Am I Suitable For IPL Treatment?

Treatment with IPL is more suitable for fair skinned persons who are not currently taking any medications that might make them sensitive to light.

Persons taking Roaccutane will not be able to have treatment for at least months after finishing their medication. Ladies who are pregnant and persons with a suntan will not be treated with IPL at the Devon Laser Clinic.
